2 Steps to a Perfect Grip

Step 1: Left hand

Place your right hand on the shaft. Open up your left hand and place it at an angle from the base of the pinky to the second knuckle of the index finger. Both the pad of your thumb and the heal pad need to be on top of the club to create leverage.

Step 2: Right hand

Now, slide your right hand down the shaft of the club at an angle. When you reach your other hand, you can choose either the overlapping grip or the inter- locking grip.

3 Pads Working Together

Looking at it from the front, the thumb is on the right, center line of the shaft. The three pads work together as one: the pad of left hand, the pad of left thumb, and the pad of right thumb.

  1. Hi Shawn,
I tried your putting grip today and took the money in my regular group, the best I have putted for years.
    Thank you.
    Ian.

  2. Hi Shawn.
I really like the tips, but as a left handed player I, and I’m sure most lefties would appreciate golf tips to be universal, i.e. Instead of left hand, left foot etc. how about top hand, front foot.

Thanks again for the great tips.

    Cheers

    Dave

    • Davie–thanks for the note. I’m a lefty as well. Unfortunately we grew up in a right-handed world and have to constantly adjust. It builds capacity for us lefties.

  3. Hello Shawn: I really look forward to Wed. so I can watch your new tip. You have the Knack for using good technique and common sense. Please keep up the good work and I wish you well.
