A few weeks ago I returned from a week’s work in the Dominican Republic where we did our annual Golf Magazine shoot at Casa De Campo. This was my first visit to the Dominican and I must say, I will be returning there. WOW! Early in my career, back in the 90’s, I had the chance to participate in a golf course renovation project for Carmel Valley Ranch where I was the Director of Instruction for the resort. We had hired Pete Dye to do the restoration, since he had done the original design. During the time I spent with Pete all he could talk about was the Dominican, Casa De Campo, and his best design, “Teeth of the Dog”. I call it the DAWG!
Following the Golf Magazine shoot I was treated to a couple rounds of golf by my good friends, Bill and Stacy Hobbs, at Cap Cana Golf Club, also in the Dominican Republic. This is the course that just hosted the Champions Tour event, the Cap Cana Championship. It is one of the best Nicklaus courses I have played in my life and if you are ever in the Dominican, it’s a must play!
