2010 Junior Golf

This month: SHGP is off to a red hot start on the Junior Tournament Circuits.

 Students On The Rise

Summer is finally here and tournament golf is in full swing.  Even with tournaments just starting up SHGP juniors have already showed an edge against the field bringing in many victories.

This past month one of our long-time students accomplished his first national championship.  SHGP student—Jeff Hageman is a freshman at McLennan Junior College in Waco, Texas.  His team won the Junior College National championship in Huntsville, Alabama.  Jeff has been a student of SHGP since he started playing golf which was in seventh grade.  Congratulations to Jeff and the McLennan men’s golf team.

On June 12-15 there were two students who competed in the World Youth Team Challenge in Chicago.

Philip Barbaree and Taylor Icenberger

Philip and his partner finished with a 6-0-2 record.

Congratulations to both Philip and Taylor for their accomplishments and representing our country in this prestigious event.

Quickly coming out of the gates with a red hot start is SHGP’s own Andrew Spear.  Less that one week after his first win of the summer Andrew has an encore performance and takes down his second straight victory on the NTPGA.  Andrew has worked extremely hard on getting his game in shape for tournament competition, with these results his hard work has really started to pay off.

Another SHGP member to start the summer off hot is Ben Baxter who won the Texas Junior Golf Tour (Charles Coody Classic).  Shooting a tournament low first round of 70 allowed him to cruise to a first place win; although Austin Connelly, another SHGP junior was not to far behind and took 2nd place honors.  This win qualified Ben for the Boys Texas State Junior Championship held later this summer.

SHGP Team member and graduating senior Jeremy LeGuin qualifies for the Texas State Open.  LeGuin won the qualifier with a score of 69.  This fall he will be a freshman on the men’s golf team at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas; LeGuin earned a full golf scholarship.

This past week SHPG had another member in the winners circle. Mitchell Kaufman won the NTPGA All American Tour event at Dallas Athletic Club.  He put together two solid  rounds of 75-74 to take home the honors.

Once again SHGP has found its way to the winners circle.  Ben Baxter won his second Texas Legends Tour event of the summer, theTrusted Choice Big “I” State qualifier.  Baxter was able to overcome Mitchell Kaufman’s first round lead and take home another victory.  Kaufman finished third place.

This past week several SHGP kids competed at the Southwest Junior Championship– The Retreat Golf Club. Colony, TX.  Ben Baxter came in 3rd place in the 14-15 year old division.  In the 12-13 year old division Sam Burns came storming back with a final round 68 in the 103 July heat to take home the 2nd place honors.  In the girls 14-15 year old division Taylor Icenberger took home first place honors in a decisive 16 shot victory topped off with a 77 in the final round.

SHGP is putting its mark all over the country, Philip Barbaree competed at the Callaway Junior World Championship at The Country Club of Rancho Bernado, CA.  Barabaree fired 71, 73, 75 to finish 14th in the 11-12 year old division.

We also had a representative in the Chesapeake Energy Texas State Open at The Cascades Golf Club, Tyler, TX.  As an amateur, Jeremy LeGuen shot 71-69-70-71 (+1) Total 281 to finish T-43. There were a total of 4 amateurs who made the cut on the weekend.  Jeremy is a graduating Sr at Marcus High school and will be a freshman at Midwestern State University this fall.

We look forward to posting more tournament finishes as the summer moves on and the victories start to pile up.
