The Bookshelf

Have you ever wondered what the elite coaches read each month?

This month: Instant Rapport by Michael Brooks

My friend, Dr. Paul Schempp, at the Sport Instruction Research Laboratory at the University of Georgia, recently polled the top expert coaches in their sport and asked them to send in the most influential reads in their lives. This list is amazing and with each blog I will personally share with you a book from the shelf of the great coaches and teachers of all time.

Instant Rapport by Michael Brooks. Copyright by Michael Brooks 1989. Warner Bros, 1271 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020.

This book is several years old and I have been studying it for ten years.  If your life involves relationships with people, either in education, sales, management, leading a business unit, coaching or training, I believe this is one of the most profound books you could ever read.  As humans, we have 3 accessing cues:  1-Visual; 2-Kinesthetic; 3-Auditory.  The dominating cue for humans is primarily visual with 78% of people processing information visually.  Billboards and television dominate our methods of communicating as a result.

I’ve got a question for you.  Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and you are in perfect RAPPORT with them?  You feel like you literally know what words are going to roll off their lips and vice-versa!  Tha’ts being in RAPPORT.  Now on the other hand, have you ever been in a conversation with another person and had a very difficult time synching up your dialog?  Or, having difficulty communicating with the other person?  Michael Brooks’ Instant Rapport training will do the trick.  Read it, live it and create amazing rapport with your clients, friends, students and with everyone you come in contact with.
